Demand Response Incentives

Single-Family

Incentives

Smart Thermostats – Connecting qualified thermostats to Eversource or UI's demand response programs enable us to make small adjustments to your energy use during times of peak demand, while rewarding you for helping reduce demand on the electric grid. You can earn $50 for enrolling a qualified thermostat, and an additional $20 at the end of each summer.

EV Chargers – Up to $200 per year in incentives for enrolling your eligible EV charger

Batteries – Pay-for-performance based on average amount of energy drawn from your battery during demand response peak events.

Multifamily

Market Rate: Up to 50% of measure cost
Income Eligible: Up to 75% of measure cost

Requirement: Wi-Fi enabled and connected, programmable, must be ENERGY STAR® certified


EV Chargers – Up to $200 per year in incentives for enrolling EV chargers at small multifamily (4 or fewer unit) properties


Batteries – Up to 50% the cost of buying and installing your battery. Option to receive additional incentives based on how much power your battery system contributes to the grid.

Business & Residential Demand Response

 

Demand response helps relieve strain on the electrical grid and reduce carbon emissions. You can contribute to it by storing energy you generate in a battery or reducing your energy use when there is high demand or stress on the grid. This helps defer some energy use to times when energy is generated by cleaner, less carbon-intensive energy sources. By participating in a demand response program, you can earn incentives for your home or business for reducing carbon emissions and keeping energy costs low for everyone.

If you’re a residential or small business electric customer, you can enroll eligible Wi-Fi-connected devices like smart thermostats and home battery storage systems in a demand response program. Residential customers can also enroll an eligible Level 2 EV smart charger.

If you’re a non-small business commercial or industrial electric customer, you can earn demand response incentives directly by enrolling your battery or thermal storage system. 

There are also curtailment service providers (CSPs), which are trusted utility partners who can provide you with demand response equipment and services. In return for their services, you split your incentive payment with them. You don’t need a CSP to participate or earn incentives, but their services often reduce operational impacts and can provide additional valuable information about your energy use.

    In recent years, utilities across New England have collectively been able to take approximately 300 MW of load off of the ISO-NE grid during times of peak demand through their programs. On the hottest days, this helps to prevent bringing oil generation online to meet customers energy needs.
