Energy Opportunities Program Overview
Energy efficiency may not be at the top of your list when it comes to replacing functioning equipment. But energy cost savings and other benefits can deliver attractive returns on investment and savings for years to come. Now, with support from the Energy Opportunities program, you have the financial and technical assistance that will enable you to upgrade to energy-efficient equipment in existing buildings.
The Energy Opportunities program makes upgrading to energy-efficient equipment affordable. Our energy experts work with you to maximize energy cost savings by replacing or modifying inefficient, functioning equipment such as lighting, HVAC, chillers, motors, controls, water heaters, and commercial cooking equipment.
We help you upgrade to high-efficiency alternatives by reducing upfront costs with:
- Financial incentives up to 40 percent of the installed costs.
- Zero-interest or low-interest rate financing.
- “Express rebates” for common measures for fast and convenient savings.
All types of businesses are saving thousands of dollars each year. For example:
Connecticut Children’s Medical Center
- Received a $37,000 incentive to offset its investment in high-efficiency HVAC controls.
- Saves approximately $23,000/year.
The Lighting Quotient (Lighting fixture designer/manufacturer)
- Received an $84,000 incentive to defray its investment in new gas-fired heating boilers.
- Saves approximately $30,000/year.
Incentives help you save on equipment costs and continue to save on capital and operating costs.

How the Energy Opportunities Program Works ➞
- Utility energy experts will work with you to identify energy-saving equipment opportunities that make sense for your business. You maintain complete control over your project.
- Energy Opportunities program administrators prepare a project agreement for your signature prior to ordering equipment. This agreement details all the energy-efficient measures, estimated energy savings, and anticipated incentive amounts. Information on zero-percent or low-interest financing is also provided.
- You work with your own preferred contractors and/or maintenance staff to purchase and install energy-efficient equipment.
- After the project is completed and the measures are inspected and verified, your company or organization receives an incentive payment.
Incentives are available for the following energy-efficient equipment:
Energy-Efficient Lighting
- Daylight controls
- Automatic dimming/occupancy sensors
- LED lighting
- Networked lighting control systems
Energy-Efficient HVAC
- Natural gas furnaces and unit heaters
- Natural gas boilers

Energy Management Systems ➞
As part of the Energy Opportunities program, we can assist you with installing an Energy Management System (EMS), an automation system that collects energy measurement data from the field and makes it available to you through graphics, online monitoring tools, and energy quality analyzers. An EMS allows you to manage your energy usage efficiently, so you can save money in the long run, and cut down on your building’s carbon emissions.
